A wide stiff blade for getting a glass or enamel slab back to clean in one pass, and for taking a dried film off a panel without gouging into it. Stiffer than any of the palette knives on purpose — this one is not for mixing and should not flex.
Also the correct tool for the job people ruin brushes doing.

- Hardened and tempered carbon steel blade, 1.2 mm thick, unplated. Riveted unlacquered ash handle with a brass ferrule.

- Finish & variation
- Satin-polished, unplated, with a squared working edge. Develops a grey patina with use.
- Made
- Forged, hardened and tempered in Sheffield, England, then hand-finished and handled in Arizona. Left unplated.
Care
- Wipe dry immediately after washing. Do not leave it wet on the bench.
- A light oil once a month if the studio is humid.
- Take spots off with fine wool and re-oil; do not use an abrasive pad.
Cautions
- Not sharpened. It is a scraper with a squared edge, and taking it to a stone makes it a bad chisel.
- Not stainless. Unplated carbon steel will spot with rust if it is put away wet — that is the trade for an edge that keeps.
- Not for a machine wash of any kind. The heat and detergent strip the finish and loosen the handle in the wood.
- Not a pry bar or a chisel. The blades are tempered to flex, and levering against a hard edge will take a set that does not come out.
